NICKEL
Natural Abundance, Stable Isobars Ni58, 67.76%, Fe58 Ni60, 26.16%, Zn64 Ni61, 1.25% Ni62, 3.66% Ni64, 1.16% Nickel chloride, nickel bromide, and nickel carbonyl have been used as charge material in the separation of nickel isotopes. Nickel chloride proved to be the most satisfactory compound and is the preferred charge material. The usual charge consists of 350g NiCl2 in a style C-18 graphite charge bottle. Nickel chloride is purchased from commercial sources and is outgassed at 450°C under vacuum for four hours before being used as charge material. Nickel and most of its compounds are mildly toxic and the inhalation of nickel in any form should be prevented. |
